Richard Bates is a retired BBC executive, in retirement ''I am a freelance volunteer seeking to make television viewing a more enjoyable pursuit for the deaf and hard of hearing. Conscious of the often unrealistic expectations that many people have of live subtitling, I persuaded the BBC’s See, Hear team to make a clip (of about 10 minutes) explaining how live subtitles are prepared - and of the problems faced by the subtitlers''

Recycle your hearing aids! -
They are collected at a variety of places such as:-
Doctors surgeries
Hospital audiology departments
Private hearing specialists
Some charity shops i.e. Help the Aged and Age Concern
Organisations i.e. The Lions Clubs
These collections are usually charity based and the hearing aids donated are repaired, refurbished and sent overseas for reuse in developing countries. Batteries for hearing aids are also wanted.
